OPERATING PRINCIPLES
The operations of P-Syketalo are governed by four fundamental principles:
- The need to provide appropriate and homely surroundings
- The provision of motivated staff
- Satisfying the needs of mental health patients who require safe, supported housing services
- The supportive attitude of the local authorities towards the services provided.
P-Syketalo aims to offer its residents appropriate high quality accommodation services, and rehabilitation through its activities. The activities are structured in a spirit of togetherness.
P-Syketalo plans and implements its operations carefully in order to offer local authorities a service that is purposeful, of high qualilty and cost-effective. In practice, this means that the residents of P-Syketalo receive care that is safe and given in the spirit of equality, all year round. Due to its specialisation, P-Syketalo cannot receive patients who are a risk to themselves or others, patients with physical disabilities, elderly patients who require psycho-geriatric hospital care, or people whose illness involves an acute problem with drink or drugs.
P-Syketalo plans its activities communally on a continuous basis, and accomodates every new resident who arrives at the house.
The multi-activity house offers:
- Care for patients suffering from psychiatric conditions.
- A socio-cultural life.
- Activities, such as modified exercise, to maintain physical fitness.
- Evening activities.
- Innovative projects.
The care offered acknowledges the residents’ own physical, psychological and social resources. The operations are in accord with the Mental Health Association's stringent quality criteria. P-Syketalo aims to achieve the best possible rating and to remain and to stay on top.
P-Syketalo’s routine creates the right framework and limits for patients, and enables quality comparisons to be made with the competition. We aim to provide rehabilitation for our residents which, in some cases, can lead to independent living. Among the routine tasks undertaken, residents clean their own rooms, do their morning routines, wash and read. A daily log is kept at P-Syketalo by staff and residents alike. The results of the log are published in the annual book and in monthly reports.
